My new single is out this Thursday 29 July.

GAMBLE AGAIN is a meditative musing, a fleeting feeling…. on the precipice of the next realm.

I produced this track and wrote it on Dharug land (Blue Mountains NSW) with Josh Schuberth (piano) and Simeon Johnson (cello). This is the only co-write on the record, as co-writing is not common practice for me as an artist. I’m so glad I took a risk by bringing my home demo in and opening up my heart and mind to what Josh and Sim could bring. I knew it needed something special and Josh’s simmering piano parts breathed life into it. Sim added that cinematic quality I’m always seeking with sweeping cello parts. Monique Mezzatesta lifted it to the next level with her stunning violin and viola parts. The song was mixed by Joel Woolf and mastered by the inimitable Grammy award winning William Bowden. King Willy masters everything I release and he hasn’t disappointed this time around.

In exciting news, I have written and directed a music video to go along with it. Seeing as we are in lockdown here in Sydney I’m going to throw a live premiere party from my studio on Wednesday 4 August at 9pm AEST. At that time you can see the video in real time with me on YouTube LIVE . That link allows you to bookmark the page and get a notification closer to the time.

I’m so proud of this video which has taken a long time to come together. It is breathtakingly epic and excruciatingly intimate at the same time. It’s another example of my love of merging cinema with song. It was filmed on Eora and Dharawal (Garrah) lands by DOP Kalani Gacon of Friendly Dog films. I’m so grateful to Kalani for assisting me to realise my vision.

This song is a powerful one that cuts to the core for me. I wrote the words and melody while in recovery following a toxic relationship. The lyrics come from a place of questioning whether I had the strength to rise up and take that risk again. The video captures the raw emotion that threatens to take hold each time we search for meaning through the eyes of another.

I hope you connect with this piece and you find some solace in it, given the uncertain times we live in and the gamble we take simply walking out the door.
