SONGS FOR BLEEDING HEARTS ~ Cover art & release date

I’m so excited to finally share with you the cover art for SONGS FOR BLEEDING HEARTS.

This beautiful piece is by Sequoia O’Brien and was undertaken at the beginning of the pandemic. I am so grateful for Sequoia’s kindness and generosity in completing this artwork remotely during the first lockdown of 2020, and sending it to me most carefully via post. In the beginning of the end times it was so comforting to be able to continue communicating and creating and sharing with another sensitive soul. Not to mention uplifting to receive wondrous gifts such as this in the mail.

It will be obvious to most the religious references of this piece. Having grown up in an Irish Catholic family I absorbed both the dark intergenerational melancholy of the Irish and the tortured soul images of Catholic icons. Both profound and disturbing, these images often haunted me and left me with more questions than answers.

This artwork is more than I could have imagined and I’ve waited so long to share it with you, as I worked behind the scenes these past few years to envelope it within the ecclectic visual world I’ve created for this record.

I’ve said many times  that SFBH was from the outset intended to be a simple and quick record. But it has held me captive for five years and demanded my full attention every step of the way. You’ll soon see the myriad of detailed components I’ve put together for you in terms of visual and physical elements to represent the ‘mercury retrograde’ of my creative career.

There were challenges beyond measure already at my doorstep and then they became wrapped in a pandemic. Therefore this artwork more and more represents the darkness I’ve hauled myself through, and the light that lead me to go on. Now here we are. Another step taken from the chrysalis. And it feels good.

I can also very happily share that release day will be on the new moon of Monday 30 May 2022 via BandcampBy clicking the link you will be taken to a special preview of my final single from the album: ‘Dark Side of Me’.

Thank you so much for your patience and support, and for simply being here. If you are one of my sweet Go Fund Me patrons that enabled this project to take place, please get in touch as I need your updated details in order to get your rewards to you. There are some surprises coming your way and I can’t wait to share them with you!
